Shellee Coley - Magnolia Red Artist

Shellee Coley

Pop-Folk

Growing up in Conroe, Texas, Shellee Coley always saw herself as a pop artist. She went to college at a music school in Nashville and was later offered a recording contract but put those dreams on hold for a season. Years later she emerges with a new depth and perspective that is sure to relate to the real life struggles and doubts of any listener. Her music ranges from moody folk to quirky pop. She has released her first EP, The Girl the Stencil Drew and will be releasing her first full length project by the end of 2011.

What is one of your earliest memories of music?
I remember listening to an Amy Grant cassette in my Mom’s Camero, freezing our butts off while the heater warmed up!

Who are some of your favorite artists and why?
I still love Amy ‘cause she was the first mover of my soul! Patty Griffin because she has a voice that haunts me and gives me chills! Greg Laswell because his music gives me something new every time I listen…which is a lot! Ingrid Michaelson because she writes songs I wish I had written and because she just makes me feel content.

What do you like about working with Magnolia Red?
I like that I have a team around me to help put things in place that one person cannot do alone. Artists that think they can manage it all by themselves are either stupid…or stupider. I also like that I can both flirt and fight with my husband on the job!

Favorite rodent or marsupial?
Pig-footed Bandicoot
