April Jams

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Hey y’all – Spotify launched this great new way to put together playlists of songs so it can be posted on websites.  Which means that when you listen to this list on here, the artist actually gets paid for it! PLUS you get to hear some of the songs I’ve been enjoying so far this month.  Check back again in early May for my new list.  Hope you enjoy as much as I have!

“Chasing a Rabbit” on Justified Tonight!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

We were so excited to find out last week that our song, Chasing a Rabbit, would be on one of our favorite shows, “Justified”.  It aires tonight at 9pm CST on FX. Our buddy, Jef Rouner, wrote an article in the Houston Press today about that placement – big thanks to him! There’s a quote below and you can read the full article here.

“Houston’s Folk Family Revival remains one of the best acts in the city. The three Lankford Brothers and their buddy Caleb Pace released an unimaginably perfect Americana album last year with Unfolding, which was nominated for two Lone Star Music Awards this past weekend, and have continued to build a following with stellar live shows. Now their star falls even higher as they are set to be featured on the FX series Justified tomorrow at 10/9 CST.”

Folk Family Revival Mentioned in “Bands That Need Love Too” Blog

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Below is a small paragraph from the blog, “Bands That Need Love Too”.  We were honored that she wrote about us – and we’re looking forward to seeing our Austin Family soon! To read the whole article, click here.

“Based out of Magnolia, TX, Folk Family Revival sounds like you’d imagine they would from their name. At least, that’s what you could say if it wouldn’t be such a dastardly understatement. You see, sure, they fit the bill as folk. You can get that just by looking at a picture of them. But it is some of the cleanest, best sounding folk I have found in a long time. This is the type of band that you would see opening for Mumford & Sons, The Head and the Heart, Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers and Ray LaMontagne and while you may have gone in never having heard them, you’d leave knowing that you’d look them up as soon as you got home.”

Folk Family Mentioned on LA Weekly

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Last week at SxSW was amazing – 8 shows, tons of new friends and getting to see heaps of bands we love.  Upon returning, we’ve found a few gems like this one – where folks around the country have been mentioning us.  LA Weekly did a summary of some events on Friday where we were mentioned.  Click here to read that article.

“Where It Began” Reviewed on Space City Rock

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Right before our first album release show, we found this amazing review by our friends at Space City Rock. Below is an excerpt and you can read the full article by clicking here.

“Some albums — the best ones, generally — have personalities, just like people. Even though they may swing wildly between different styles, they’re tied together somehow by this overarching thread that runs throughout.

They step beyond, “hey, this isn’t bad,” to pull you along with them on their emotional journey, wherever it happens to lead, and by the time you reach the end, you’re sorry to see that journey’s at an end. Taking the CD out of the player feels like hanging up the phone with a friend, and when you listen again, even if it’s a decade later, it feels like you’re picking up right where you left off, right back to that trusty friendship.

Shellee Coley’s new full-length, Where It Began, is one of those albums, at least to me. I’ve never heard much of Coley’s music before now, but it all feels as warm and familiar as an old sweatshirt I’ve worn off-and-on since college. It feels like home, truly, despite the fact that Coley’s not singing about my life but hers.”

“Where It Began” Reviewed on Houston Press

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

My album, “Where It Began” received a great review from Jef Rouner at the Houston Press.  Below is a excerpt from the review – click here to read the full article.

“The songs are big people’s music, not the frantic energy of the young or the dark plumbings of the tragic artiste. Coley tackles parenthood, the maintenance of a loving marriage, and the struggle to keep afloat in difficult times. Her songwriting is frighteningly mature, full of amazing little twists of phrase that turn every sentiment into a mantra.”

Blog Tour

Monday, February 13th, 2012

To celebrate the release of my upcoming album, I am doing what is called a “Blog Tour”. I am going to be teaming up with various bloggers for the next two weeks to share my songs and stories with you. You will get to hear a new song each day on a different blog and the best part about this is that you get to hear other people’s take on the song of their choice! We will begin today (February 13th) and post a new blog location every week day for the two weeks leading up to the digital release of my new album, “Where it Began” on February 28th.

I am so excited to have so many creative and supportive people jumping on board to be a part of this!

Where It Began Reviewed on Music News Nashville

Friday, February 10th, 2012

We received an incredible review from Chuck Dauphin of Music News Nashville.  It was the first review we’ve gotten – and are so thankful for his kind words.  Below is a quote from him regarding the article – click here to read the full review.

“Every now and then, one comes along. One of those singers that you remember the first time you heard them for the rest of your life. Ok, that’s a dramatic statement. But those are the emotions that I am feeling right now upon hearing this jewel of a singer – songwriter named Shellee Coley.”
