FFR News :: Houston Music Review – Album Release Review

Friday, July 22nd, 2011
We are fortunate to have a live show review from Matt Matthews of Houston Music Review (and radio personality).  Below is a excerpt from that article – or you can click here to read the full article. “One thing is for sure, when you purchase a ticket to see Mason Lankford, his brothers Barrett and Lincoln along with their longtime friend Caleb Pace, you will get much more than you expected.  The level of professionalism exhibited by these young men far exceeds their experience and highlights the talent the group possesses.  The live performance was well delivered with no moments lacking.  This is a new approach to music that still has reverence for real, roots driven sound.  Buy the record… see a show… join The Family.”

FFR News :: Music News Nashville Reviews “Unfolding”

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011
So glad to get a great review from our friends at Music News Nashville.  Click here to read the full post – below is an excerpt from the article: “‘Unfolding’ is FFR’s debut album, featuring thirteen original songs produced by Jeffery Armstreet. Frontman Mason Lankford has the voice of a tired old soul who has lived the words he sings, and is backed by creative arrangements, such as unexpected percussion and moaning undercurrents of organ and fiddle.”

FFR News :: Space City Rock Reviews “Unfolding”

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011
Below is an excerpt from a recent review we got from Space City Rock – to read the full article, click here. “How old are these guys, again? That’s the thought that keeps replaying in my head, over and over again, as I listen to the Folk Family Revival’s debut full-length, Unfolding. It boggles my mind that at least a couple of the four band members — brothers MasonBarrett, and Lincoln Lankford and Caleb Pace — aren’t even legal to drink yet, but they can somehow channel this road-worn, world-weary (but unbeaten) sound, the kind that by all rights should be coming from somebody twice their age and with a lot more scars. It seems damn near impossible.”

FFR News :: Americana UK Reviews “Unfolding”

Thursday, July 7th, 2011
Below is an excerpt from a review written for Americana UK: “The band has mined their influences on a baker’s dozen classic roots-rockers done in the classic style. More plaintive than some, more than a hint of Southern rock, hugely listenable, and indeed occasionally punch-the-air-able. It’s all amazingly accomplished and Mason Lankford’s songs are worthy of someone twice his age.”

FFR News :: Houston Press Reviews “Unfolding”

Thursday, July 7th, 2011
Here’s an excerpt from our recent review in Houston Press written by Jef Rouner – to read the full article, click here. “The depth of the songs on Unfolding is just unbelievable, especially coming from a songwriter who hasn’t even crawled out of his teens yet. Roadsongs, heartbreaks, and unflinching look at popular religion make up the lyrical content buoyed upon a combination of catchy modern pop production and pure Appalachian style country.”

FFR News :: Country Music People Reviews “Unfolding”

Friday, July 1st, 2011
We recently connected with UK publication “Country Music People” and they informed us they reviewed “Unfolding.”  Below is a clip from that: “Folk Family Revival consists of the Lankford brothers; Mason (vocals and guitars), Lincoln (drums) and Barrett (bass), together with Caleb Pace (lead guitars, mandolin and lap steel). Amazingly, the band are all under 22 years of age, with main songwriter and singer Mason not yet 20. This album is their debut offering, and is a very promising slice of Americana, with country, bluegrass and rock influences thrown into the mix…There are some interesting ideas for songs here both lyrically and musically, which is surprising coming from a writer not yet out of his teens. There’s a real variety of pace, with ballads sitting easily next to out and out rockers, and a rawness to the overall sound, which is no bad thing.”
