Castle LightsRock-Pop Though they have not yet released their first album, Castle Lights is creating quite a buzz with their dynamic live show and stellar songwriting abilities. Their music could be described as intriguingly melodic British pop yet unmistakably American rock and roll. It has been apparent from the time we were first introduced to their music that Castle Lights has an extraordinary ability to create infectious songs that you will want to listen to over and over again. They have completed their first album, Paint the Stars, which was released in the fall of 2010. |

What is one of your earliest memories of music?
JW: When I was 5, I would go to the local nursing home with the chaplain. I would sit at the piano and start “making up” my own music while the elderly folks came in. They would always tell me how much they enjoyed it and how they looked forward to it everyday. Who knows what it really sounded like.
AE: When I was young, my parents would take my brothers and I to a local bookstore. We were allowed to pick out anything we wanted. I would head straight for the music section. Each trip, I would walk out with at least a couple good records. It was like Christmas came early!
TS: When I was a little kid, I was always at the church choir practice because my parents sang and played instruments. Music has always been a central part of my life, even from an early age.
Who are some of your favorite artists and why?
JW: Coldplay – Their melodies, chord progressions, and arrangements are so unique and perfectly constructed. Lyrically, they know how to paint an abstract picture. Paul Verlaine – He is my favorite poet due to his use of specific details and words to make a vivid world in every description. U2 – Their music has stayed relevant with every decade. They started their own genre, and they are the true meaning of what it is to be brothers in a band. Tim Walker & Jeremy Cowart – They are both my favorite photographers. Tim knows how to capture images in his lens that you would only think was possible in your dreams. Jeremy uses his art not only to capture some of the most honestly breathtaking shots, but to create awareness. He climbs in the trenches to listen to the stories of the forgotten people and captures that image in the most honest, vulnerable, and wall-crumbling way.
AE: I am always terrible at answering the “What is your favorite…” kind of questions. It all really depends on my mood, but right now, I have been listening to a lot of Paper Route and various folk artists. Next week it could be different ?
TS: My favorite artists would have to be Keane and Coldplay. Their music inspires me to create a sound that people can get lost in.
What do you like about working with Magnolia Red?
AE: Definitely the people. Magnolia Red has a great team who is always pushing us to be better and looking out for our best interest.
TS: What don’t I like about working with MR? They are awesome and want the best for us.
Favorite rodent or marsupial?
JW: I would have to say a beaver. I watched a documentary on Netflix recently and was surprised by how incredibly smart, hardworking, and organized they are. The dams they build are extremely complex and intricate—true works of art.
AE: Bamboo Rats
TS: Musky Rat-Kangaroo.
